A “NEW” YELLOW PHONE!

When I was a little kid in Hampton, Virginia we had a yellow wall dial phone in the kitchen. And my Aunt Dabney, who lived just up the street from us, also had one just like it.

(How many of y’all oldtimers remember the day when most people only had ONE phone in a house?!)

We moved to that house in 1957 [I think - or 1958??] and moved away in 1960. At the next place we lived, in Rocky Mount, Virginia, we had a black desk phone in the main hallway. I don't know what happened to the yellow phone when we moved. I think back in those days, the phones were the property of the phone companies weren't they? My parents probably either turned it in or left it in the old house.

Well, I happend to find a vintage yellow phone in a thrift shop several years ago, in beautiful condition. However, it has been sitting on a shelf in the closet waiting for me to install it. It's so old that it's pre-modular so it had to be hard-wired in! I finally got around to hooking it up -- here are some photos!
