Cyberspace Vacuum Cleaner Museum — Regina
Regina, Model A, 1905
This is my oldest vacuum cleaner! It was a gift from my friend Peter Frei of Switzerland. Note the small, circular port into which a flexible metal hose was attached, which in turn connected to a wand and crude metal nozzle.

The long, wooden handle (which in this case is a reproduction made by my friend Bob Kautzman of Allentown, Pennsylvania, from the design of an original handle) is pumped rapidly to-and-fro which operates a rubber-lined bellows inside the cylinder. One person pumps, the other operates the wand and nozzle. This machine actually has quite strong suction and, were it not for the primitive design of the cleaning tools, would do a very good job of vacuuming.

(The wary cat sitting on the coffee table, suspiciously eyeing the metal monster, is my kitty, Nikki Goldberg.)
