Cyberspace Vacuum Cleaner Museum — Miscellaneous

Royal
“Standard”
1925
I have two old straight-suction Royals, a Royal “Standard” and a “Super Royal.” However, neither of them have been restored yet and are not ready for a place in my museum.

But this is a great photo; I wanted to place it in the Museum even though the cleaners are not yet on display.

This is the main display-window of the old Bullocks Wilshire Department Store in Los Angeles (long-ago closed; but the building was still there the last time I drove past).

What a wonderful display of Royal Standards! Check out “Thoroughly Modern Millie” as she's hard at work, doing the vacuuming!

Premier
Model 37
1937
The Premier Vacuum Cleaner was made, in various styles of course, from the early 1930s through the late 1950s. They also made cleaners with the General Electric name. This is a nice model with a festive, patterned bag.

Ohio
“Tuec”
1920
I don’t know very much about this cleaner, except that it’s old! When I was photographing it, I turned the motor on to inflate the bag. Suddenly, the bag popped off the exhaust-neck, and 77-year-old dirt belched out all over the place. A vacuum cleaner museum would not be complete without some vintage household schmutz, so here it is.

SingerModel R-1
1935
I consider this vacuum cleaner to be the most exquisitely styled upright machine in my collection. Truly a vacuum cleaner on steroids (or LSD!), this glistening blob of Machine-Age metal so totally epitomizes the sumptuous, “rounded” design philosophy of the Streamline Era.
